DERRICK is a proud native of Kent, Washington. Throughout his early years, Derrick grew up on low income and frequently moved around the King and Pierce County areas. Watching his mom work to put food on the table helped him discover how important it was to have a strong work habit and vision set in stone. He believed these to be pieces of motivation to honor her for the sacrifices she had made throughout his childhood. As a teen, Derrick attended both Kentridge and Kentwood High School and graduated as a decorated student athlete.

Later, while earning his degree in Marketing from Central Washington University, he played football and spent several hours working with the non-profit organization, After-School All-Stars. In addition, he did work at Valley Medical Center as a Nutrition Representative.

After completing his bachelors, he found himself wanting to get more involved with non-profit organizations that gave back to kids and struggling families.

Community Network Council became his next home, where he then began doing contracted work to get families and students connected to resources in the community.

Helping students and families overcome financial obstacles helped him understand how vital building relationships and making connections was in all aspects of life.

This is what influenced him to dedicate most of his time to help motivate others while getting them connected to the same resources that changed his life.
